ITH Polar Bear Stuffie Pattern for 5×7 Hoops.

Who doesn’t love Polar bears!  This is an In the Hoop (ITH) machine embroidery project, completed in five 5×7 quick hoopings.  A sewing machine is needed to secure the legs to the body, although this can be achieved by hand. Finally, the turning gap in the body is also sewn closed by hand.

The hoops must be made in ascending numerical order.

• Hoop 1 sews the ears and legs.

• Hoop 2 sews the panel for the back of the arms

• Hoop 3 sews the panel for the front of the arms and then attaches the back of the arms to it.

• Hoop 4 sews the panel for the back of the body.

• Hoop 5 sews the panel for the front of the body and then attaches the back of the body to it.

There are two polar bear stuffie examples in the photos. One of them is made entirely using wool felt, the other is made from velvet fabrics. Both are beautiful in their own way, and show how the same pattern can look very different depending on the fabrics chosen.

I decided to ‘decorate’ the wool felt bear, by hand embroidering a snowflake on its jumper, hand stitching around the jumper, and adding a scarf. The instructions do not show how to do these extra details – they are purely an example of how the bear can be personalised).

This makes a wonderful Christmas decoration or present…. and remember, Polar Bears are not just for Christmas!

Hoop 1 = 87.1 x 141.3 mm = 2,459  stitches

Hoop 2 = 94.4 x 90.6 mm = 423 stitches

Hoop 3 = 94.4 x 90.6 mm = 847 stitches

Hoop 4 = 115.2 x 179.7 mm = 606 stitches

Hoop 5 = 99.9 x 172.7 mm = 4,366 stitches
